	Readme File: CALL OF DUTY 2: Kar98k NEW Hello! My second one, brings new Kar98k skin in your COD2. About 5 textures of wood blended, same for metal (A lot of testing :)). You can see it well on butt end of rifle on one of the screenshots. One thing I don't like in COD2 is the way they made models. A lot of details on my texture are actually lost - reduced quality because they are stretched to fit on model. Worked on it for 45-60 minutes. To install this mod, extract "zzz_newkar.iwd" in your Call of Duty 2 / main directory. Do not steal my work! If you are going to use it one some of your mods, give me some credit. Enjoy! JoachimCRO

very good pixel work on those metals and wood.

Two suggestions:
1) normals: I recommend putting normals into greyscale palette (but save the image in RGB!).
2) speculars: Also speculars should be greyscale palette (but save the image in RGB!). Plus if you want to have nice shiny contrast between metal and wood, make metals really shiny and wood in the brightness it has originally in color map (or darken it a bit). Then in alpha channel fill all metal areas with black and all wood areas either with white or grey.

To make the quality to max, save your textures as DDS (DXT5, without mipmaps) and use ddstoiwi converter to make iwi files.

I'd like to start skinning characters in free time (thats not so much time) but I cant find character skins frown

1) Use Winrar to open the "iw_13.iwd".
2) Go into "xmodel" folder. Find out xmodels beginning with "character_".
3) Choose which you want (select). Hit ALT+V.
4) Winrar will open the selected xmodel with text browser.
5) Hit CTRL+F, a window for search will appear, write there "mtl_", and hit search. It will find several names beginning with "mtl_"
7) Write down these names (or remember them).
8) Go to the folder "materials" (also in "iw_13.iwd" wink

9) Now you must find files with "mtl_" names you have previsously wrote down (or remembered).
10) Open each of these "mtl_" file (select it and hit ALT+V).
11) Write down (or remember) the word before "colorMap" - it is the name of skin file in IWI format in "images" folder big grin

NOTE: "images" folders are in "iw_08.iwd" up to "iw_13.iwd" plus "localized_english_iw10.iwd"
