handsomeplzer From: (Baltimore, MD) Joined: August 31st, 2003 Posts: 3 | CoD AI is very impressive! I noticed their facial expressions which can tell the mood, the different ways they present gun fire, hear in the distance a platoon leader signaling his men, the chirps of the German Language, very impressive lighting of the anti aircraft gun.
Last but not least how amazing; a p4/2.0 gig with 1 gig of crucial ram, Radeon 9800 video card @ 8x, 128 ram, w/dvi output w/19" dvi monitor using latest drivers, running win2000 crashes after about 10 minutes of play is impressive, NOT!!!
I feel that a demo should be a representation of a finished product. If I want to beta test a game I will personal inform Activision/Infinity Ward!
A CoD Demo is no different then a local food vendor offering free samples of their cuisine. They wouldn’t give you uncooked food just so you can tell them it doesn't taste right! Nor would you tolerate them telling you there is something wrong with your taste buds.
I understand mistakes happen, that’s life and in a Demo it’s pretty mute. However, it has been my experience that the problems you have in a demo will be the same problems you have in the final release. I will not spend the $50 just so I can get the same crashes as in the demo unless it’s addressed and fixed!
Did you view the read me file? The way it is written makes it very difficult to understand if it supports most graphic cards or not. It states that "Some 3d accelerator cards ...listed here...may not be compatible with CoD...
The steps you have to take to play this game in win2000 means changing your win2000 environment. I don't recall doing this in MoH...! |

I think this is a problem with radeon cards, as i have seen few similar posts. lets hope it gets fixed for retail....... |
invalid1211 Joined: September 24th, 2003 Posts: 4 | Maybe you guys are setting up your radeon cards up wrong with that extra power thingy, or maybe your memory is too close to something thats interfering with it ,like the cheapo powersupply or the expensive videocard (they do sell covers to fix that specific prob) but i would suggest putting farest away from the powersupply, or maybe bios settings are tweaked out all wrong (with that mysterious 8x that nobody knows wut its for), maybe your using to many perepherals on a low capacity powersupply. No disrepect to the quality of your computer parts, but its just a suggestion. I know someone with the same setups as u guys ( readeon +p4's) and everything works fine for them. I had the interference prob with my geforceti4200 and i moved the mem stick and everything worked fine (I didnt have to but the aluminum resistor cover crap thingy). |

It's so bad that I can't actually see the ground, let alone anything below the horizon. The houses all are missing textures, it's like looking into an invisible house, and only seeing the enemy with a fire, or a floor. Anyone know how to fix this, or have any of you run into this issue before?

Sometimes the game will just crash after 1minute, othertimes I can play the whole level. Most of the time it crashes tho.
This has to be a problem with Radeon cards, I tried a complete re-install of XP. I have messed with everything. It makes me wonder how I can play MoH with no problems, BF1942 with no problems, Splinter Cell with no problems... then this game causes a crash.
I did note that in the readme it doesnt say it supports the 9600, however it doesnt say that it specifically does not support it. I would have thought that if it supports a 9800 it would support a 9600.
Hope the real release fixes these issues, cus when it works, by god its a good game. |
Guest (maestro.demon.co.uk) Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | For those of you having problems with your Radeon crashing shortly into the game, this can be solved by unistalling the 3.8 drivers (thru add/remove programs) and then installing the 3.7 drivers.
Now the game runs flawlessly. Thats wot I like to see |
Guest (syprisuser.grtk.com) Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | In reply to #10
Yes the 3.8 drivers are making my game crash. Everyone with radeon cards install 3.7 to play this game flawlessly.
Please report the problem to ATI so they can fix it. The more people complain the quicker we will get it fixed. |

Catalyst 3.7 causes monitor signal loss. Only effective workaround I found was disabling Fast Writes in Catalyst configuration.

I bought the game lastnight and the install went just fine... started playing the game and on the first level it always freezes up when I shoot the guy in the bunker after you pick up that thing from the guy hanging in the tree... I downloaded the new nvidia drivers and turned down the sound quality anf I still get the same thing... however I did not see my sound card in the sound options menu.. I have the soundblaster AWE 32... do any of you know if this soundcard or 3d video card causes the game to lock up? Thanks! Jeff. |

If call of duty locks up for you with your ATI Radeon Card try turning off Fast Write on the Smart Gart Tab in Display Properties if you have the Catalyst 3.8 driver. Seems to make no difference for me in performance and COD will run smooth. |

My system is meager but i ran both of the Call of Duty demos and they worked flawlessly. Even when there where lots of things being drawn on the screen at once, i still got a decent 25-30 fps. i was so impressed that i got the game. but im seeing huge diffrences in the demo versions and the 1.0 release. the game is very choppy even with all detail levels down to low. very very disapointing. i want a patch or a fix for this game soon. |

i get all the same problems as most of you guys.
ive installed ATIs supposed call of duty fix which has done nothing but now make windows crash if i have a problem with my gfx card.
error reporting is the most useless feature ms have included in windows since 1.0 it does little but remind me i have a problem with my gfx and lays the blaim on the drivers that ATI have officially released with the cod fix (cat 3.7s).
anyone got any ideas how i cna get this sorted?
my system stability is fine i have no other hardware problems/conflicts my windows version is xp pro and im all up to date driver and patch wise.
is it an actual hardware failure?
or is it drivers?
any feedback much appreciated

The one thing I have noticed is that you and I have the same chipset. The kt400. This chipset seems to have issues with the AGP settings with the Radeon cards. Try shutting off Fastwrites and turn off you AGP slider in the SmartGart utility. I know it sucks that you cant use the 4x or 8x AGP, but that is the only way I have found that the game will run without crashing. |

Then I moved to an AMD 2600+/GForce4MX440 and the game crashes my system after a few minutes of play. I see the same reaction with another 3D game Heavy Gear 2.
Also on some crashes, the video display gets garbled but I can see a repeated and distorted image of a Nissan XTerra(yellow) on a hill with two guys in the picture(skiers I think). Wierd. This leads me to think a virus-like thing is at work. Although an updated NAV scan says no viruses. |

Nothing stopped my PC from hanging while playing COD. Then I tried UNDER-Clocking my motherboard. Thats right. I should be running with a motherboard setting of 166MHz but to get the game to play stable and optimized for graphics I set my motherboard(ECS-K7VTA3) to 133 Mhz and then Over-Clocked to 150MHz. Its a bummer I had to buy a new card and to down clock my system so I can play better. My processor is an AMD 2600+, now my bios reports it as a 2000+. Hope someone can benefit from this. |
