  Submit Your Files

Have you created something - be it a skin, a wallpaper, a tutorial, a sound track, a map, a mod or whatever - and wish CoDFiles to publish it? Then read on carefully!

The better you conform to the following guidelines, the faster your file will be online. Ignore them and it might end up never being published at all!

We won't accept any files whose contents seem legally questionable. This list includes, but is not limited to, files that contain a hacked executable or copyrighted materials used without explicit consent/permission.


Sending Your File

Files should be directed to: files@codfiles.com


Preparing It for Submission

  1. Create a ReadMe in text-only format (TXT) that provides the following information:
    • A short but comprehensible description of your file
    • Installation and usage instructions
    • (Optional) A legal agreement stating whether or not you agree that your file may be redistributed on removable media (CD, DVD, etc.), resold, modified, or "plugged" into a mod without your expressed consent. If you want to protect your work, you really should include a legal agreement!
    • Your contact information
    Avoid using quotation marks (") as they won't be displayed properly in the ReadMe area of file posts
    Anti-spam tip: Don't print your e-mail address explicitly; instead of name@isp.com, write name AT isp DOT com    .
  2. Create a few screenshots (6 at most) showcasing your file, preferably in JPG format (quality: 65-75%) and at a resolution of at least 640x480 pixels (maximum: 1024x768)
  3. If possible, upload a video of your submission to FileFront (click here) or YouTube and put the HTML "embed" code in your e-mail to us. Provided that your video abides by the site rules, we'll post it in the description for your file!
  4. Bring all this together in the same directory (file, readme, and screenshots), and compress them all into a single file.
    We would prefer that you use the ZIP format for the compressed file as it is supported on all platforms (RAR is not supported on Mac)
    Avoid nested directory structures inside it unless absolutely necessary.
  5. Name your compressed file in such a way that makes our publishing system happy (i.e. no characters like #, %, @, etc.).
    Example #1: Your file is the first version of a multi-player map entitled Gamma Labs; you should name it mp_gammalabs_v1.zip
    Example #2: Your file is a wallpaper entitled Return of the Dead; a possible name would be return_of_the_dead.zip


Formatting Your E-mail

If your ReadMe is good, this step will be a snap! smile
  1. The subject should be the name of your creation
  2. The body should include your nickname (or FN member name if you have registered with the site), e-mail contact, as well as the category you feel is most appropriate for your file


Troubleshooting (FAQ)

  1. My ISP doesn't allow me to send my file because it's too big...
    • ... Use one of these services to submit your large file.
    • ... Send it in n number of parts. Both 7-Zip and WinRAR have means to split archives to match a specific size. Just make sure to append something like this to the subject of your e-mails: (file 1 of n) for the 1st, (file n of n) for the last
    • ... Try to host it on an FTP and we will retrieve it off there.
